While the Fellowship of the Ring advances towards Mordor, the Dark Lord Sauron tries to find the location of the Ring-bearer, and unleashes his armies against the last strongholds of the Free Peoples. This massive (and best-selling) game based on J.R.R.Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings allows players to experience the epic conflict that occurred before the end of the Third Age of Middle Earth. The War of the Ring allows players to control the military might of Men, Elves, Dwarves, Hobbits, making the fateful decisions of the Fellowship of the Ring — or to guide the dreadful servants of Sauron as they hunt for the Ringbearer. As the Ringbearer moves towards Mordor, his companions will be needed elsewhere to rouse the reluctant free nations of the West and lead them to war. Yet, by leaving the Fellowship too soon, the fate of the Ringbearer and his quest becomes more uncertain and will carry a more dreadful risk with every step closer to the mountain of fire. On the opposing side, the Dark Lord and the forces of shadow must balance political and military action against the need to search for the Ring or risk its destruction. The game can be won by a military victory, if Sauron conquers a certain number of Free People cities and strongholds or vice versa. But the true hope of the Free Peoples lies with the quest of the Ringbearer: while the armies clash across Middle Earth, the Fellowship of the Ring is trying to get secretly to Mount Doom to destroy the One Ring. Sauron is not aware of the real intention of his enemies but is looking across Middle Earth for the precious Ring, so that the Fellowship is going to face numerous dangers, represented by the rules of The Hunt for the Ring. Each game turn revolves around the roll of Action Dice: each die corresponds to an action that a player can do during a turn. Depending on the face rolled on each die, different actions are possible (moving armies, characters, recruiting troops, advancing a Political Track).
